Peter Jackson (born 1961) is a director, producer and screenwriter from New Zealand. He is most famous for his movie version of The Lord of the Rings trilogy, the much-loved fantasy novels by J. R. R. Tolkien. His version of The Hobbit, another fantasy novel by Tolkien, and the prequel to The Lord of the Rings, played in theaters in recent years (2012-2014). Jackson's fantasy films always feature outstanding special effects, costumes and makeup. His filming of the beautiful New Zealand mountains and countryside is one of his trademarks.
Peter Jackson has been nominated for 9 Academy Awards, winning three. He won Best Director, Best Picture and Best Adapted Screenplay for "The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King."
